Going beyond the Free Zone

August 20th, 2009 04:51:43 pm

Rocky Point (Puerto Penasco) Mexico is located in "The Free Zone", and you do not need to have a visa or permit! If you are wanting to travel beyond that point, you will need to purchase a FMT (Personal Tourist Visa).

You may purchase a FMT at the Immigration Office as soon as you cross the boarder on the right hand side. You will need a birth certificatee and a valid drivers license. As soon as you have filled out the paper work you will take it to Banca Serfin and pay $195 pesos (per person) and then return to the office to give them a copy. You will not obtain your FMT at this time, but the Immigration Office stamps your FM3 or Fm2 for travel beyond the free zone.

By law, anyone who stays in Mexico for more than 72 hours is required to have a FMT, even if you are to stay within the free zone!
