Auto Insurance

If you are traveling into Mexico, you are required by law to have Mexican Automobile Insurance. It  may be possible that you are covered by your U.S. Policy but, Mexican Liability is still required by Mexican Law. You might want to ask your carrier which coverage you'll need. You may tell them that Puerto Penasco is approximately 62 Miles across the U.S./Mexican Border, and is declared a "Free Zone".

The cost of your Mexican Auto Insurance is based off a few things:

     - The cash value of your vehicle.

     - How many days you will be spending in Mexico.

     - Whether you need to purchase physical damage and liability, or just liabaility alone.

You also have the option to chose from 6 month policies and Annual policies. Purchasing physical damage and liability, or just liability alone. If you would like to purchase liability ONLY a Drivers License policy may be something you would look into if you will be driving different vehicles in Mexico.  Ask one of our agents what will work best for you!

Having an auto accident in Mexico can be a felony, rather than a misdemeanor. We recommend driving in the daytime hours. Alot of claims do happen during the night time hours. Driving during the night time on the Mexican roads or highways can be dangerous. Many highways and/or roads do not have any lighting, so you you will not be able to see the potential hazards that you will in the daytime hours.

Whenever you are involved in an automobile accident in Mexico, you must immediately be able to prove financial responsibility.

If involved in an automobile accident in Mexico, DO NOT panic! First, make sure everyone is okay, then call your Adjuster. Check all damages and if anyone is injured the authorities will do an investigation. The drivers will be detained until ones fault is established. (its a good idea to have witnesses to the accident)  If you do have to go to jail, your Adjuster should handle the legal stuff for you.  Payments for damages will include the property damage and medical expenses.

Again YOU must be able to provide coverage for the accident.

This may only be done in either of two ways:

  1. Immediate Cash to cover all damages OR
  2. An approved Mexican insurance policy.

All Citizens driving in Mexico are subject to the laws of Mexico. Your U.S. liability policy, even if it bears a limited Mexican endorsement, is not recognized by Mexican authorities.

Having Mexican Automobile Insurance is just a plain good idea.

There are many Insurance Agencies out there AAA is the most expensive and all the rest are about the same plus or minus a couple of bucks.

We think that GetMexicanInsurance.com (It's us) is the best way, and easiest way to go. The policy also has $20,000 legal aid included in the policy.
